Fluctuation landscape
WOW was responsible for planning, directing, and producing a permanent outdoor installation at The MixC, an ultra-large shopping mall in Shanghai. It has 20 towers, each about 2.3 meters high, with the LEDs tiled in glass, and these are more than 10 meters wide. By placing the work in the overfall that existed in the plaza, it harmonized with the original environment. There are two types of effects, one based on natural phenomena and the other on the night view of Shanghai. The projected images are repeatedly reflected and refracted through the glass. The way it looks constantly varies depending on the surrounding environment and the viewer's position. Which is like a natural landscape always in a state of flux.
Traditionally, video works tend to be valued according to whether they have high resolution or if they have a fixed beginning and end in the time axis. However, we considered that people's imagination is infinite in its resolution and timeline, and this work is born from that idea. If you carefully observe the way the surface of the water and the bottom of the river shake, you will see that the reflected images of the surrounding scenery seem to repeatedly form and collapse. This brings us a strange sensation, and it appears as though we are repeatedly seeing abstract and concrete landscapes. This work is a visual interpretation, based on these experiences, of the unique landscape created by light characteristics such as reflection and refraction.
