LUNAVITATE by PLATEAU
About the Project
WOW was in charge of planning, directing, and producing a movie on the theme of Kyoto as the application version of a technical tutorial on video production utilizing the “PLATEAU” project promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
PLATEAU provides 3D models of cities across Japan as open data to realize DX in urban development and create open innovation. This project utilized a 3D city model of Kyoto City and produced tutorial and hands-on videos on physical simulation and object control using CG software. Following the basic version “NIIGATA WONDER”, the project attempted to expand creative possibilities and expressions using PLATEAU.
Movie “LUNAVITATE by PLATEAU”
The gravity of the moon pulls objects in the streets of Kyoto into the sky, one after another. Eventually, even cars and buildings are released from the pull of gravity and begin floating, and the night sky becomes a dreamlike landscape of countless structures and dancing lanterns. Combining a 3D city model of Kyoto City, live-action images, and VFX, this movie depicts the charming beauty of the ancient capital Kyoto and the mystery of moonlit nights. The movie depicted an urban landscape where reality and unreality intersect.
▶ Hands-on video
▶︎ Tutorial will be made available in February 2025
PLATEAU
Promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in collaboration with various stakeholders, PLATEAU is a nationwide project to create digital twins of cities across Japan. The project establishes and maintains 3D city models as data platforms for urban activities and explores use cases across diverse domains. Moreover, it provides 3D city models as open data to ensure universal access to urban information. By advancing the development, utilization, and provision of open data for 3D city models, PLATEAU facilitates DX in urban planning and fosters open innovation.
