Circle of Light
Light changes by the second, from day to night, and throughout the seasons of the year. It constantly shines over the world somewhere, providing energy and comfort through its strength and beauty, rising and drawing routinely in a cycle which seems to be eternal. In the real world, it is never be possible to command the entire view of this cycle of light. This work is an attempt to realize such grandstand view of this transient Circle of Light.
About the Exhibition
The work was produced for the exhibition,
NEOREAL WONDER - The World of Canon Digital Imaging held at Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano marking its 50th year in 2011. It was projected on the three- dimensional screen consisting of countless strands of leveling cords, created by TORAFU ARCHITECTS under the theme “Light Loom.” The exhibition space included a 3m wide and 8m long entrance tunnel leading to a main hall, where two 10m x 4m curved screens were installed near the entrance and the exit, flanking the luminous strands of cords forming the word “WONDER” at the center. 24 computer controlled projectors were used to create and regulate the atmospheric wholeness of the space. Unlike flat-screen projections, the luminous cords projections have a character of drastically changing their expressions depending on the viewing angle, and invites the viewer to an entirely new visual experience and a world of sensibilities previously unthinkable.
