Light Rain
When did I start to dislike rain, I wonder? Hit by a rain of light that showers down, I give my body up to satisfying, illusory water. As this activity continues, something appears faintly. It’s the forgotten murmur of my heart.
About the Work
The theme of this interactive installation is water. With Light Rain, the audience physically enters and experiences the film. Raindrops fall with a variety of rhythms, contacting the audience’s shadows and bursting with beautiful tones. This is a film for the senses to enjoy, not merely observe. Besides rain, water puddles are created and constellations appear within them. Not only can the audience 'swim' into this installation but the interactive elements, passing across the screen from edge to edge, invite you to chase and be chased. One of our primary aims in our creativity is to create a work that people of all ages can enjoy. With Light Rain, we could successfully chronicle these hopes.
About the Exhibition
Light Rain was initially created for SCAN(Sendai Contemporary Art Network). The first exhibition took place at the Miyagi Art Museum, and it was then invited to be exhibited at the Seoul Design Festival in Korea. For the effect to succeed, cameras capture outlines of the audience, and then Processing software allowed the visuals to react to those outlines in real time. Objects enter from the sides and move in great arcs across the wide screen. The audience can enjoy the feeling of running as they interact with these movements. The atmosphere was completed via the careful recreation of the sounds of falling rain, played through 6 speakers.
