The Lady Gaga Experience
The 58th GRAMMYs Awards｜2016
On February 16, 2016, in Los Angeles, at the world’s foremost celebration of music, the 58th GRAMMYs Awards, Lady Gaga, Intel, and Nile Rodgers came together to pay tribute to David Bowie. WOW handled the face projection mapping for the opening to Lady Gaga's performance.
David Bowie's presence loomed large; through imagery such as his iconic lightning-bolt makeup, he had a huge influence on the music and style of Lady Gaga herself.
To symbolize Bowie, WOW used face projection mapping to create makeup themed on lightning, suns, and spiders. WOW went beyond the limits of mapping technology—said to be unable to be used with singing—and challenged itself with the use with cutting-edge lip-tracking.
